Cookies are small text files placed on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile phone) when you visit a website or use a web application. They are widely used to make websites and applications work more efficiently and to provide information to website operators.
Cookies can be "session cookies," which are deleted when you close your browser, or "persistent cookies," which remain on your device for a set period of time or until you manually delete them. Cookies set by the website you are visiting directly are called "first-party cookies." Cookies set by organisations other than the website owner are called "third-party cookies."
Similar technologies to cookies include web beacons (small image files that track whether a page has been loaded), local storage (similar to cookies but held in your browser's local storage rather than sent to the server with each request), and session storage (like local storage but cleared when the browser session ends). This Cookie Policy covers all of these technologies where they are used on everybodycounts.co and within the Everybody Counts platform.
Everybody Counts uses cookies and similar technologies across two contexts: the public website (everybodycounts.co) and the authenticated platform (app.everybodycounts.co). The categories of cookies used and their purposes are different in each context.
We do not use cookies to track individuals across third-party websites. We do not share data collected through cookies with advertising networks. We do not use cookies to build profiles for targeted advertising.
Strictly necessary cookies are essential for the website and platform to function. They cannot be switched off in our systems, and they are set in response to actions made by you, such as logging in or submitting a form. These cookies do not collect information that could be used to identify or track you for marketing purposes, and they do not require your consent under UK PECR (Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations).

Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors interact with our website and how teachers and pupils use the platform. This information helps us identify what is working well and what needs improvement. We use analytics data only in aggregate form and do not use it to identify individual users. We set analytics cookies only after obtaining your consent.
Provider: Plausible Analytics (self-hosted)
Purpose: We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-focused analytics solution, to understand aggregate traffic patterns on everybodycounts.co. Plausible does not use cookies and does not process personally identifiable information. It collects only aggregate, anonymised data about pages visited, referral sources, and browser/device types. There is no tracking across sessions, no IP address storage, and no sharing with advertising networks.
Cookies set: None (Plausible is cookie-free)
Data processed: Page URL, referrer, browser, device type, country (derived from anonymised IP; IP itself is not stored)
Requires consent: No (no cookies, no personal data)

Everybody Counts does not use the following categories of cookies or technologies:
Advertising cookies: We do not use cookies from advertising networks (such as Google Ads, Meta Pixel, or similar) to track users across websites or to serve targeted advertising.
Social media cookies: We do not embed social media tracking pixels or sharing widgets that set third-party cookies.
Profiling cookies: We do not build profiles of individual users for commercial or marketing purposes.
Fingerprinting: We do not use browser fingerprinting (a technique for identifying users based on their browser configuration without using cookies) for tracking purposes.
A small number of third-party services we use may set their own cookies. We list them here for transparency.
When you access the billing or subscription management pages, Stripe may set cookies to detect fraudulent transactions and to maintain your secure payment session. Stripe's cookie practices are described in its own Privacy Policy at stripe.com/gb/privacy. Stripe cookies are only set on the billing page, not across the entire site.
Stripe cookies include:
__stripe_mid — Stripe fraud prevention (persistent, 1 year)
__stripe_sid — Stripe session (session cookie)
When you first visit everybodycounts.co, a cookie banner appears at the bottom of the page. You can choose to Accept or Decline non-essential cookies. If you accept, we will set functional and analytics cookies as described in this Policy. If you decline, only strictly necessary cookies will be set.
You can change your cookie preference at any time by clearing the ec_cookie_consent cookie and reloading the page. This will cause the cookie banner to appear again, allowing you to update your choice.
All major browsers allow you to control cookie settings. You can set your browser to refuse all cookies, to accept only first-party cookies, or to be notified when cookies are being set. Instructions for managing cookies in the most common browsers:
Google Chrome: Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies and other site data
Mozilla Firefox: Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies and Site Data
Microsoft Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Cookies and site data
Safari (macOS): Safari → Settings → Privacy
Safari (iOS): Settings → Safari → Privacy and Security
Please note that disabling cookies may affect the functionality of the Platform. In particular, disabling strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from logging in to the Platform.
Pupils accessing the Platform on school-managed Chromebooks or other devices may have cookie settings managed by the school's IT administrator. Individual pupils on managed devices cannot override school-level browser policies. Schools that wish to adjust cookie settings for managed devices should do so through their device management console (e.g., Google Workspace Admin for Chromebooks).
Some browsers include a "Do Not Track" (DNT) setting that signals to websites that you prefer not to be tracked. There is currently no universally agreed standard for how websites should respond to DNT signals. We honour DNT signals by not setting analytics cookies when a DNT signal is detected. Strictly necessary cookies are set regardless of DNT status, as they are required for the Platform to function.
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time as we change the cookies we use or as regulations change. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where the changes are significant, notify current users by email or via the platform. We recommend checking this page periodically to stay informed about how we use cookies.
